10 “Rules” for Hailing a Taxi!

Share Button

1. Make it clear you’re looking for a ride, and not just saying hi!

2. Have a clear final destination in mind, drivers don’t want you to “wing it”

3. Make sure it’s actually a taxi, and not just a random yellow vehicle!

4. Be aggressive to make sure the taxi driver can see you!

5. Check to see if your whole squad will fit in the car or else you’ll be separated!

6.  Don’t bring any smelly food in your cab or else your driver might try to steal it!

7.  Hail the taxi yourself, and leave your kitten at home!

8. Make sure the license plate meets your standards!

9. Check the trunk of the taxi for miscellaneous body parts!

10. And most importantly, don’t forget your wallet!

What The Uber?! Criminals Pose as Uber Drivers!

Share Button

The other day I was waiting on a busy street in Boston for my Uber car to arrive when I saw a car pull up that was the same make and model as the car that was displayed in my app. I went up to the car and started to open the door only to have the driver inside give me an odd look and have my husband yell from behind me that this was not actually our Uber car. Mortified, I turned around quickly and stood further up on the curb, making sure to avoid the driver’s eyes.

After telling this story to my good friend who lives in Chicago, she mentioned that she recently did something similar but actually went one step further and jumped in a strangers car thinking it was her Uber! This got me thinking that riders getting into the wrong cars and mistaking them for their Uber ride must happen quite frequently. Apparently, a few criminals have caught onto this trend as well and have sadly started taking advantage of Uber riders.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago police are now warning Uber users to be cautious after two young men were recently robbed by people posing as Uber drivers. Apparently in both cases, the suspects pulled up to a curb in the early morning near where a few popular bars were closing and looked for people who seemed to be expecting an Uber. The suspects would then tell their victims that their Uber had arrived. In both incidents, once the victim entered the car, he was robbed of cash, debit/credit cards, and personal ID’s. Luckily no one was hurt in either case.

Our team here at TaxiFareFinder wants to remind people to be safe and vigilant when using rideshares! Always make sure the driver, make and model of the car, and the license plate all match up with the Uber you have ordered on the app. Do not let this “What The Uber” happen to you!

Find Your Hidden Uber Rating!

Share Button

If you are an avid Uber user, then you are aware by now that your Uber drivers rate you as a passenger at the end of each of your Uber rides just as you are encouraged to rate your driver. This rating system is based on a five-star scale, one star being the worst, lowest rating and five stars signifying the best, highest rating. Your rating is displayed in your rider profile and drivers are able to see it when they accept a ride request, unfortunately though, your score is not displayed on your side of the app, making it hard to find your own rating. However, Uber recently released a new feature within their app that makes it easier than ever to find our your score.

Way2Ride E-hailing Taxi App!

Share Button

The taxi payment app Way2ride was introduced last year, and it allowed people to pay for their yellow cab taxi rides in NYC through its payment feature.

But this September, Way2ride introduced a feature that could become a huge success for the taxi industry as a whole.

The app was created by Verifone Systems was started as solely a payment app where users could pay for their taxis. Now, Way2ride includes the infamous hailing feature allowing users to submit requests for taxi drivers, similar to the controversial ride-hailing app, Uber.

Currently this app only exists in New York City and Philadelphia but has already grown to include almost 20,000 yellow and green taxi drivers.

The introduction of new apps like this one present an interesting question about whether they will succeed in the long-run or not. With so much competition coming in from Uber and other ride-hailing apps, who’s to say if this one will catch on in the market.

Way2ride believes that the creation of this app may help taxis with their ongoing battle with services like Uber and Lyft because nowadays consumers want everything to be digital. If people have access to an app and can order a taxi through their phone it will be a step forward for the taxi industry as a whole.

When the app was created in 2014,  it received many awards. It was selected by The 2014 American Business Awards (ABA) as a Stevie® Award finalist in the New Product or Service of the Year – Transportation category, 2014 CNP (CardNotPresent) Customer Choice Award in the Best Alternative Payment Solution category, and the 2014 Appy Award for Best Mobile Payments.

We’re keeping our eye out for up-and-coming apps like Way2ride that may soon change the way we think about ordering and paying for a taxi!

What The Uber?! Jay Leno (and his chin!) Drive for Uber!

Share Button

How cool would it be to have an Uber car pull up to your house, and when you step inside you find yourself face to face with a Celebrity Uber Driver. If you live in Los Angeles, this could happen to you!

Jay Leno and Uber have teamed up to allow Leno drive for their Uber Black service around Los Angeles on October 7th in order to promote his new series Jay Leno’s Garage. Apparently for the lucky few who happen to request Jay Leno’s Uber, they won’t be able to recognize him at first as he will be dressed from head to toe in a disguise. He does promise though to reveal his true identity before the end of your ride.

Whether you are a Leno fan or not, “The King of Storytelling” is bound to come up with some great small talk, so if you are one of the lucky few riders you will be sure to have an interesting conversation. And the best part is while you cruise through LA with Leno as your driver, your ride will be 100% free!

Melbourne’s Newest Rideshare, RideBoom!

Share Button

There is yet another new rideshare company on the block trying to take a piece of Uber’s profits. This newest rideshare app, RideBoom, was developed in Melbourne, Australia by a taxi operator who is eager to make RideBoom everything Uber is not.

Like most Rideshare apps, you order your car through the app, watch your driver arrive, and pay via the app at the end of your trip. However, RideBoom does have a few unique features. Our favorite aspect of this app is that you can choose your ride for either immediate pick up or for the future. RideBoom’s future time bookings can be made through the app from 2 hours to 7 days in advance ensuring there is a car for those early morning rides or time-sensitive special celebrations. Also, because RideBoom allows you to pre-book through the app they also offer the option for the driver to arrive with baby/child seats so you do not have to worry about lugging your own car seat around!

Rideboom, unlike UberX, only accepts accredited, commercial hire car / van drivers and luxury taxi drivers. Also all of their drivers and vehicles are required to carry commercial insurance for all rides.

The one downside of Rideboom, is it is currently only available in Melbourne, Australia. However if you are planning a trip to Melbourne anytime soon you can still download the app and book a ride from overseas!

What The Uber?! Uber Creates Star Wars Stormtrooper Cars

Share Button

If you follow the Star Wars saga even slightly then you will be aware that last Friday was Force Friday, the first day that new Memorabilia from Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit the stores. There was a lot of media hype, press attention, and special events surrounding Force Friday and naturally Uber did not want to be left out. They decided to take Force Friday to a whole new level by releasing custom-painted First Order Stormtrooper Dodge Chargers.

This troop of Stormtrooper Dodge Chargers were available last Friday to NYC Uber users and the best part is they were free! According to InfiniteLegRoom.com, these cars were part of a promotional campaign between the app-based car service and Mattel’s Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels’ First Order Stormtrooper cars officially went on sale Friday and were the model for Uber’s fleet of Dodge Chargers. Needless to say the campaign was a success and Uber’s Stormtrooper cars really did take NYC by “Storm”.

Were you in NYC for Force Friday and did you happen to see or ride in one of Uber’s Coveted Stormtrooper cars? If so tell us your story in the comments below!
