Even if you plan on taking public transportation, knowing about the taxi system in Amsterdam is important because it is usually the easiest way of getting to and from the airport or if public transportation is closed for the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike other cities, taxis are not allowed to stop just anywhere. You can\u2019t hail them like you would in New York or London. Amsterdam has a plethora of fixed taxi stands all over the city. They are easy to spot and find; you shouldn\u2019t have to walk to far to get to a taxi stand. There may be taxis waiting to pick up passengers. If there isn\u2019t any, just wait a minute or two and you\u2019ll have your taxi. You can also call the taxi company directly and have one pick you up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Taxi Fares in Amsterdam<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Taxis in Amsterdam are licensed with official fares set by local authorities. There are two types of taxis: cars and buses. Fares depend on the type of taxi. Cars are only allowed to transport a maximum of four passengers at a time. Buses can transport up to eight passengers. Cars charge \u20ac3.19 to begin with an additional \u20ac2.35 per kilometer after that. For waiting times, it is \u20ac.39 per minute. Buses have a beginning rate of \u20ac6.49 with an additional \u20ac2.95 per kilometer. Per minute they are \u20ac.44. If a taxi waits for you, the charge is \u20ac43.94 per hour. You\u2019ll want to keep your wait time to a minimum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taxis in Amsterdam must be licensed in order to legally operate. You can find illegal taxis at the airport. Legal taxis are easy to spot because they feature a roof light with their companies official taxxi logo (it is spelled with two x\u2019s) and blue license plates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking taxis in Amsterdam is easy. Drivers are not allowed to decline short trips, so you\u2019ll never have a problem getting one. Drivers are required to take the shortest route to get you to your destination in a safe manner. The taxi meter will always be running. If you do not see the meter running, you should make a complaint.
