This five to one vote directly impacted Revel who was planning to launch a fleet of 50 Model Y Tesla taxis in NYC. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Frank Reig, Revel CEO,\nspoke at the meeting stating that Revel not only wanted to provide an environmentally\nfriendly rideshare option but also offered drivers better treatment,\nspecifically hiring drivers as full-time employees, than competitors Uber and\nLyft. \u201cWe\u2019re offering exactly what this commission has been asking for for\nyears: fair treatment and stable pay for drivers \u2014 who are all W-2 employees\nwith benefits \u2014 and a plan to drive EV adoption in the city,\u201d Reig said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the TLC argued\nthat \u201cIt is not sustainable to allow an unlimited number of new vehicles to the\nroad in a city that is all too familiar with the choke of traffic congestion. We\nwill not allow the opportunity for another corporation \u2014 venture capitalists or\notherwise \u2014 to flood our streets with additional cars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Revel so far has raised $31.6 million from backers such as Toyota.
