Most likely, if you have, it was a phone or a wallet and hopefully you were able to get it back! While forgetting a purse, phone, or jacket is relatively common sometimes people leave behind the most unbelievable items. Luckily for us, Uber records all of these items and shares them in their annual “Lost and Found Index”!

This is Uber’s seventh year compiling their lost and found data, and they have highlighted “which cities were most forgetful, which times of day and days of the week riders forgot items most, and global forgetfulness trends.” As we suspected, clothing, phones, keys, and wallets were the most frequently forgotten items but some of the most unusual items found in the back of an Uber were a unicycle, fog machine, and six cheesecakes!

Before we get to the Lost and Found Index, we wanted to remind our readers of the steps to take if you have accidentally left something behind in an Uber. First, the best course of action once you realize you have left something behind is to call the driver. However, if your phone is your lost item and you are unable to call, login to your Uber account and follow these steps:

Tap the menu icon to open the main menu.

Select “Your Trips” and then the trip on which you lost the item.

Tap “Find lost item” and then “Contact driver about a lost item.”

Enter your phone number to call the driver.

If your driver picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet for its return to you.

If your driver doesn’t pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.

And remember to be considerate, the driver’s schedule will be affected by taking time to return your item to you.

The full 2023 Uber Lost & Index is below.
