Foul Odor Remedies (for Vehicles and other enclosed spaces)

Get rid of foul car smells fast!

Need to quickly get rid of a foul odor inside your car or taxi cab? Having a stinky car can definitely derail business and thus your bottom line as a driver. Here are our top tips for getting your car back to it’s factory fresh smell.

  1. Roll down the Windows. It seems simple but sometimes the best (and quickest) thing to do is to roll down the windows and let some fresh air in. This should always be your first step!
  2. Air fresheners or an air freshening spray, like Febreeze, in the car at all times is a must have! If you would rather take a more natural approach try keeping an open container of coffee in the car or some cotton balls dipped in vanilla essence. While this may not mask a rotten food spill, it will keep your car smelling generally nice day round.
  3. Vacuuming. Unfortunately, difficult odors have staying power because they can easily infiltrate the upholstery in the vehicle. Getting rid of those odors takes a little bit more work than hanging up an air freshener or opening the windows. However, vacuuming is a great way to get rid of a lot of odors in a car. It pulls the unfortunate smells out of the upholstery and leaves the car smelling fresh and clean.
  4. Baking Soda. Leaving an open box of baking soda in a car will help soak up any nasty odors. If there is a spill that leaves the car smelling especially icky, you can sprinkle baking soda directly on the spill. Leave the baking soda on the spill for a few hours, then vacuum the baking soda away.
  5. Activated Charcoal. Like baking soda, activated charcoal also does wonders in soaking up rotten smells. You can buy it in bulk online and keep it in your trunk for emergencies.

What are your top tips for getting rid of unfortunate smells? No matter the method we find that you always want to take care of the smell right away, so it can’t worsen.
